houses of time
based on 3 tales, these project is composed by 3 houses which talks about the relation between the human and the time in a spatial way, showing the intrinsic relation of the humanity with the past, the present and the future.
The whole project appeared as a deep way to explore the relation between 3 different kinds of contexts and its potentials: one house in the city suburbs, one in the seacoast and one the countryside of São Paulo.Starting the approach in a ludic and poetic way by choosing 3 tales: one brazilian (The Pink Boto), one dutch (The Flying Dutchman) and one japanese (Urashima Tarô: The Fisherman's Tale). From these 3 tales I elaborated 3 characters; one for each context; looking for delineate each different vision of the time so that the space reveals this reverberations.
PAST
HOUSE OF THE PAST
Nostalgia resigned to contemplation.
Character: A old fisherman that in the end of his life seeks a space where we can be able to remember the past and his gone or absents relatives. A house where there is reverence to the past and to the existing memories which intertwine with the surrounds since the beach is a place he has a strong connection. Thus, this old man nostalgic lives divided between the shore where we had his family and the sea where working he was able to see how much he changed during the past years.
Concept: The past as a precious and solid object which can't be changed, but contemplated leading us to nostalgic feelings.

Proposal: Two pavilions - one compartmentalised
house which is marked by a trajectory, like walking in a line that gives the opportunity to review and contemplate each memory generated in the rooms; and other smaller house where the old man can lives and is able to contemplate the first house where he hosts his relatives and to contemplate the sea, because it is in the between them.
HOUSE OF THE PRESENT
The well lived moment.
Character: The character is a flight attendant that doesn't spend a lot of time in his home due to his work. For him, his house is a sacred place where he can rest and enjoy life while he anchors. His home is his safe haven, then it is notable for the singularities: the light entering through the window, the wind thats swing the curtains, the water that going down the roof; the contemplation of what changes in the outside while the time seems to stop inside it. His house is done to live the moment: a safe haven stop in time in front of the whole life that goes by.
Concept: The experience right in place and well lived. The house as a safe haven where anchors when he comes back from a trip looking for enjoy and involve with the present moment.

PRESENT

Proposal: Spaces inside a space. The appropriation of an old shed to build a small village of two houses that respects the independency of their dwellers, but at the same time constructing an organic and fluid coexistence in a space that changes according to steps of life. The new two houses - the bigger to the flight attendant and the smaller to rent to someone who takes care of the village while he is absent - stands in the middle of the ruins of this old shed and the plants growing for the future. This village becomes a shelter between the past and the future: it becomes the present.
FUTURE
HOUSE OF THE FUTURE
Preparation for the tomorrow's surprises.
Character: After years only seducing people, finally he fells in love for someone and start to deal with questions he never did before specially the future and all its uncertainties. He looks for a place where he can feel safe to dream about the future and think about plans in peace, a place being flexible to start a family and see glimpses of what comes next by thinking and contemplating the surroundings.
Concept: The future as something very unpredictable, expected and desired, but also feared and respected. The house as a capsule which enables the dweller to glimpse and to prepare for what comes next; a space between the safety and the insecure.

Proposal: A house make of thoughts: it doesn't born from specific programs, bus from the exploration of space's potential. Since walking to looking, this house is embedded by the verb "to think". As a ritual the narrow ramp, which goes down from the street level to the house level, calms down the accelerated heart and mind. The house concentrates most of the openings of the house to the landscape view: like a great spectacle watched by the sober house that shelters and invites its dwellers to watch not only the beauty and security of the landscape, but also to wonder about the uncertainties and dreams of the future.
